The entire time we were in Hawaii I really wanted to rent canoes, kayaks or stand up paddle boards. Our to-do list was SO long that we never got around to it. After we flew home we had one weekend together before Kris started school again. That is when I discovered you can go stand up paddle boarding in Erie. Rentals are right on the lake. Who would have known! So we booked some and went down to the lake. It was super fun!
Pregnancy throws you a little off balance, so I was worried about being able to stand up paddle board while pregnant. I had never been stand up paddle boarding before. It ended up being really easy! Although it was a little scary at first when I stood up. I got flustered and dropped my brand new pair of sunglasses into the lake right where the weeds were really thick… It was worth it for the fun time we had.
We brought drinks and granola bars and we took turns sitting on the dock with Zoey. We would have definitely brought her on the board with us if we were doing it in Hawaii. There it wouldn’t matter if she fell in. But stand up paddle boarding in Erie was a totally different story. The water was so brown and full of algae and seaweed. We didn’t even consider bringing her out with us. I would have been horrified if I had fallen in, let alone my toddler! The seaweed was so thick leaving the dock that you couldn’t even paddle. You had to push your paddle against the weed and glide over the plants. It was a lot clearer once you got out farther though, and the scenery was just stunning!
I am constantly surprised by how many things Erie has to offer. Seriously, who would have guessed you could go stand up paddle boarding in Erie?? Not me. They have libraries, museums, shopping, theme parks, GORGEOUS scenery (Presque Isle is basically heaven), hiking trails, playgrounds, you name it! We absolutely loved the summer in Erie. It is officially snowing like crazy here and I’m excited to see how this city comes to life during the winter. Apparently you can skate on the inner harbor of Presque Isle Park and I can’t wait to check that out!
I am definitely a sunshine girl and LOVE the summer above all else. I have this inner battle with myself though about whether I want to end up living somewhere with all the seasons, or summer all year round. Each season is so amazing in its own way and I would hate to miss out on the ones you don’t get when you live in Hawaii or on the west coast, or Arizona. At the same time you just can’t beat the sunshine, bathing suit and a beach. I guess it is lucky I still have about 6 years left before I even have much choice in the matter, yay medical school!
