Last Day in New York

On our last day in New York the last thing we did was jump in the pool for a dip. Living in a hotel for a month had a few minor drawbacks. For example, lights out at 8pm since we were all sleeping in the same room, or limited storage space for alllllll our crap. But mostly it was such a fun experience.

We had delicious hot breakfast made for us every morning, and we went for a family swim every night. In between time Zoey, Zander and I would explore the hotel and outdoors while Kris was at work. In the afternoons we got to experience everything the city has to offer. Fun sites in NYC and amazing shopping in Yonkers were just a few of the reasons we loved living in New York.

This is a TOTALLY random post, but I just saw these old pictures on my hard drive and had to share them, along with some of the memories they bring back. Here are just a few more things these pictures remind me of:

  • The day before we moved out we had to throw away soooooo much stuff! It wouldn’t all fit in our car so we threw away a lot of blankets and stuffed animals that had come in the mail while we were in New York. We had to find random trash cans around the hotel to stash everything, since there wasn’t nearly enough room in just one. I still feel bad for whoever had to take the trash out after us…
  • There was a family of cats, a mother and two kittens, that lived around the hotel. Whenever we saw them Zoey would beg us to catch them so she could keep them. I am not going to lie, I tried to lure one in, but they wanted nothing to do with us.
  • Having no hot tub was a real downer. We took hot baths every single night after the kids were in bed, but it just wasn’t the same as a big, comfy, jetted tub.
  • One time we were in the lobby and Zoey and Zander both put their hands on an automatic sliding glass door at the same time. The doors opened in two directions and they each had their hands on opposite doors. They triggered the door opening and both giggled as it dragged them towards their fingers being crushed in between the door and the slot it slid in to!! One of the hotel workers dove to the rescue. He was closer to them than me. He grabbed them both just before their fingers were squished.
  • Zander had an obsession with the fire place in the lobby, which made it hard to wander that part of the lobby comfortably. He has a knack for finding danger I guess…
  • We bought a Roku since we forgot our apple TV at home and Roku’s are way cheaper. Connecting to hotel wifi on a Roku device is possible, but really annoying and needs to be reconnected every day or two. I do not miss dealing with that Roku…
  • Troll’s Holiday debuted in our hotel room the moment it came out on Netflix, thanks to that frustrating Roku. We LOOOOVE that show!
  • I worked with eos while we were in New York and got a TON of their circular lip balms. Those became one of the toys that Zander played with most. We always found them in our shoes. He loved hiding things in our shoes while we lived in New York. The best was when Zoey insisted there was something in her shoe, but I shook it out and found nothing. She then reached inside and pulled out a toothbrush Zander had hid there!
  • We blocked off our closet with a bench so Zander couldn’t get in. The whole month, anytime something went missing, we would find it hidden behind that bench. Zander loved throwing things over it and would clean the whole hotel room up, throwing everything in his reach over the bench.

Those are just a few random memories from our hotel stay in Yonkers, NY that I don’t want to forget! I remember the most random things apparently, but each of these memories makes me smile a little. They are worth holding on to.

Have you ever stayed in a hotel for a month? What was your experience like?
