I found a collection of small stones in one of the pockets of my jacket today. It reminded me of this beautiful morning in Montauk spent collecting shells on the beach. Zoey watched me to make sure I put each and every shell and rock she collected right into my pocket. She has always been good at seeing the beauty in nature, and I love that about her. She’s always finding treasures.
We spent a few minutes chasing the waves down the beach to grab the prettiest shells and stones. Then we’d quickly run up the beach as the wave flowed back up over the sand, to avoid getting our shoes wet. It was a very cold morning. Not a barefoot in the sand type of day. That had it’s benefits though. We were literally the only ones on this gorgeous beach in Montauk. We had it all to ourselves, something that would just never happen on a warm summer day in the Hamptons.
After a few minutes I pushed my luck too far trying to get a sparkly shell. My feet got caught by a wave and saltwater soaked through my socks. That quickly ended our beach excursion. But it wasn’t too disappointing, we had a beautiful bungalow to retreat to, with a balcony overlooking the beach.
There was also a beautiful, ocean fed, saltwater pool, overlooking the beach. We went there to swim after, and to soak in the spa. The whole experience was so rejuvenating and relaxing. We looked up houses in the area because we couldn’t help but imagine buying one for summer vacations in the future, but everything we liked was well over a million. At least there is always this spot we can go back to. Gurney’s Montauk, you have my heart!
