For a long time I have been wanting to spend a day in Victoria and do all the things I used to do with my family growing up. I wanted to show Kris all my favorite places to visit with my family in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. This trip to Canada we finally were able to make that happen. Well partially. We skipped all the things we had done together in the past because we were limited on time.

My favorite spots to visit in Victoria are the Ogden Point Lighthouse, The Royal BC Museum, Beacon Hill Park, the petting zoo and the Commonwealth Pool. Today we made it to Beacon Hill, the petting zoo and the pool!

The petting zoo is right in Beacon Hill Park and it was Z’s favorite stop of the day. She could have spent hours brushing the goats and giving them hugs. She absolutely LOVES any and all ‘an-muls’ as she calls them but friendly ones that let you pet them are the absolute best.

After the petting zoo we visited Beacon Hill and had a picnic. I wish I had taken some pictures in the park because it is really a stunning place. It is a few acres of paths, gardens, ponds, ducks and even a few peacocks. There is also a really fun playground and splash pad for kids.

Our last stop was the Commonwealth Pool. I am pretty sure I don’t know anyone who loves being in the water as much as I do. I can easily say that swimming at the Commonwealth is one of my favorite childhood memories. They have an olympic size diving pool, a giant waterslide that is fun for adults too, a wave pool, a lap pool, a kiddy pool, a hot tub, a sauna and a steam room… Just to name a few things. It is basically swimming pool heaven in my mind, I have yet to find another pool in the world that meets my expectations after growing up with this one.

I spent the first 17 years of my life in Canada and the last five in the States and there are a lot of things I like better about living in the US, but the one thing I dislike is no place that I have lived in the states has a decent, clean & well maintained, fun family pool. When I research where we are moving next I actually look up which cities have good community recreation centers… I am sure I will find one one day.

At the end of the day we hopped on the Sydney to Anacortes ferry and headed to see my parents. It was a perfect day. What is your idea of a perfect day?

  1. Thanks for sharing your perfect day! I’m coming over to visit Liz in August (I hope) and Sami Clemente is getting married in August as well. Now I have some ideas of where I might be able to take Annabelle 🙂
