Since I just had a baby I thought I would try and take a little bit of a break from blogging by sharing the rest of my Hawaii pics rather than creating all new content.
We absolutely love Oahu! I love all the tourist attractions like downtown Waikiki, Matsumotos and Diamond Head Crater. But my favorite thing is finding the less popular treasures. Spots that are harder to access and less popular with tourists. This beach is one of those places. It is in Laie, a small college town on the north shore of Oahu, the place I went to college.
There are two access points for this beach and both of them are kind of discreet, so there are rarely people on this beach. There was an entire semester of college where I would come to Bikini Beach alone every day for 2-3 hours to study and tan and I would rarely see another soul.
The first place to access Bikini Beach is through a path near the beach side bus stop right after the PCC if you are driving towards the north shore. If you are driving towards town it will be right before the PCC. I didn’t check this time we were in Hawaii, but when I was in college there was a yellow gate to keep cars from driving down that way that you had to hop over or go around.
The second place to access Bikini Beach is on Laie Point. If you are walking towards the end of the point there will be a path on your right hand side with a pole in the middle that says “private property” (picture below). The owners don’t actually care if you use this path down to the beach, the sign is just for liability purposes so if you fall you can’t sue them. This path is really cool, it goes down a set of stairs carved out of the side of the cliff and ends on the beach.
During our vacation in Hawaii our rental was on Laie Point. It was just a short walk to Bikini Beach, so it was a place we enjoyed walking to around sunset when it was cool out. This was such a relaxing way to spend the evening as a family. Just watching the waves. Or if you are Zoey, jumping over the waves.
Another of my favorite hidden beaches in Hawaii is Kuwela Bay. Maybe I will share how to get there next. There is something so serene about a beach in Hawaii that isn’t crowded with hundreds of people. And there’s something so strange about it at the same time… Like how are there not 100 people at Bikini Beach at all times??? It is so beautiful. What are your favorite hidden destinations?
