Decorating The Tree + Some Holiday Tips For Keeping The Carpets Clean

We are major Christmas lovers over here… Like seriously. Day after Halloween we start making Christmas tree plans. We grew up in Canada and Thanksgiving happens in October over there, so we don’t need to wait past Halloween. Of course I have been living in the states for about 7 years now so I probably should be starting to wait a little better. This year we are hosting a big thanksgiving party with friends and our Christmas tree is going to be the center of the party… I went shopping for decorations a few days after Halloween and we spent all day Saturday decorating!

To be honest we already had a ton of decorations, but every year I tell Kris this is the year I want to do a ‘pretty tree’. And somehow he always wins me over (or tricks me) into going with his favorite, tacky, kid tree style. This year I finally decided it was time to upgrade to a more stylish, grown up tree. We set up a baby size tree upstairs with all the rainbow colored lights and decorations and I went all out and bought everything I needed for my ‘Pinterest Christmas Tree’ 😂.

Even Kris loves how the tree turned out! You can see it out our front window as you drive up to our house and I love it. While I was picking out decorations I also grabbed some Scotch-Brite™ Lint Rollers. I was thinking about how annoying it is to have pine needles all over the house, and it dawned on me that these would be the perfect solution. On that note I have a quick tutorial for all those who are starting to pull out all the Christmas decorations.

Keeping Your Carpets Clean & Pine Needle Free This Christmas

Tip 1: Put a tree skirt underneath your tree! This makes it easy to gather up a lot of pine needles at once in the skirt and take it outside to shake off. Plus tree skirts just look so cute!

Tip 2: Use a Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Roller to get the pine needles around your tree skirt and everywhere else they happen to be (seriously, I find pine needles EVERYWHERE during the holidays!). These rollers are 50% stickier than the regular ones and great for picking up big things like pine needles. You can find them in the same place you find laundry baskets at Walmart, it took me forever to find them so I thought I would just give you a heads up!!

Tip 3: Once presents start to pile up on the tree skirt and you don’t want to move them to shake the tree skirt outside, use the Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Roller to get in the nooks and crannies between the gifts. I love this because I don’t even have to take out the vacuum, it is so much more convenient for getting in small spaces!

Bonus tip for glitter lovers: I LOVE sparkly decorations and my husband always complains about how much glitter he finds around the house during the holidays (on his clothes even🙈). So for the glitter addicts out there, use the regular Scotch-Brite™ Lint Roller to pick up the loose fairy dust around the house! It works like a charm. Not to mention it is great on pants, coats, sweaters, dresses, suits, formal wear and more – if you are like me, dressing up a lot for holiday events, it is nice to have around!

  1. That’s such a smart idea to use a lint roller around the Christmas tree. We always have a real one and trying to vacuum around the presents and tree skirt is such a pain! #client
