10 Tips For Being Holiday Photo Ready

There is nothing more fun than gathering with family for the holidays! But every time we do, I get to deal with the same unfortunate incident. Every year I am caught in pictures looking less than photo ready and more than a little awkward. Each year I find myself untagging myself in photos on Facebook, and just hoping no one sees certain appearances I have made on camera! I am sure I’m not the only one who has given the ‘deer in the headlights’ look in a family photo during the holiday season, or been caught posing for the camera in the most unflattering way. So today I’m sharing 10 tips for how to be more photogenic and look photo ready all season long!

10 Ways To Be More Photogenic & Holiday Photo Ready

1. Look To The Light

Right before your photo is snapped glance at a light. Doing this will shrink your pupils and help you avoid the dreaded red eye!

2. Tilt Your Chin Slightly Downward

Tilt your chin slightly downward when taking photos. This will naturally highlight your contours, giving your face a slimmer and more defined look. This simple tip will really help you be more photogenic. It also helps you avoid the a double chin!

3. Sharpen Your Smile

There is nothing more central to a photo than your beautiful smile! Keep your teeth sparkling white all season long so you can proudly show off your smile in pictures. One way to do this is with regular brushing. I use the Oral-B Pro 6000. A two pack of them is usually $149.98 at Sam’s Club, but through Nov. 25 you get $30 off instantly, making the final price $119.98! They sell at $99 EACH at other retailers.

The Oral-B Pro 6000 rechargeable electric toothbrush features Bluetooth, which allows the toothbrush to connect with your phone and give you useful feedback on your brushing habits. The set includes everything you need for you and one other person; two handles, three brush heads, two travel cases and two charging stations.

4. Smile With Your Eyes

A real smile always looks more natural in photos! Try chuckling before a photo is snapped to help get a real smile on your face. Authentic smiles are a sure way to be more photogenic. Avoid saying ‘cheese’ before a photo is snapped, saying the word ‘money’ helps give a more relaxed and real smile.

5. Avoid Lots Of Sparkle On Your Face

Sparkly makeup may be fun during the holiday season, but if you are going to be taking lots of photos at a party or event, avoid too much. The sparkle can cause unwanted glare or shininess in a photo, making your skin appear greasy.

6. Stay Well Groomed

This tip is especially for men this holiday season. If you want to look great in holiday photos, start each day looking sharp and photo ready by staying well-groomed. In order to do this you need at least one essential grooming tool on hand, a good razor!

The new Gillette Pro Shield, available exclusively at Sam’s Club, is a great place to start for staying well- groomed and photo opp ready. It features a premium black handle and comes with 11 replacement blades, enough to last you almost an entire year. It is regularly priced at $42.98, but the $5 instant savings available from Oct. 24 through Nov. 25 make it just $37.98! That’s 11 months of Gillette’s most advanced razor for under $3.50 per month.

7. Don’t Look Directly At The Camera

Looking at the camera straight on is rarely flattering. Turn your face slightly to the right or left before a photo is snapped. This will give your features more depth and is a great way to be more photogenic with very little effort.

8. Don’t Stand Directly Under A Light

Standing directly under a light will cast weird shadows on your face. Instead, try standing in a way that you are looking towards a light source, like a window! This will provide even lighting on your face and will help avoid unwanted shadows.

9. Hold Something

If you feel awkward posing try holding something in your hand! A flower, your purse, or maybe even a baby if one is nearby. When you hold something it is easier to relax and look natural in your posing.

10. Be In More Pictures

Don’t shy away from photo opps this holiday season. The best way to be more photogenic is practice! The more photos you are in, the more likely it will be that the perfect one is captured. Even imperfect photos are a wonderful way to capture memories and will make you smile in the years to come.

These simple tips, and a few photo ready tools like the Gillette Pro Shield and Oral-B Pro 6000 (both on sale at Sam’s Club), will help you be more photogenic and photo ready all season long!
